Skate Sharpening

Professional figure skate sharpening is available for all figure skates.

You can add skate sharpening to any purchase of new blades or preloved skates, or purchase it as a standalone service if you're located in Southern Tasmania.

Please allow up to 10 days for skate sharpening to be completed. If you require your skates sooner, please email us before placing your order and we'll do our best to accommodate your timeline.

Whether you're preparing for training, competition or simply getting back on the ice, we'll ensure your blades are sharpened with care and ready to perform.

Choosing Your Hollow

The hollow is the groove ground into the bottom of your skate blade during sharpening. The depth of the hollow determines how much grip (bite) or glide you'll have on the ice.

• Larger radius (5/8") = Less bite, more glide

• Smaller radius (3/8") = More bite, more edge grip

There is no single "best" hollow. The right sharpening depends on your weight, skating level, blade type, skating discipline and personal preference.

5/8" Hollow

Less Bite • More Glide

Ideal for:

• Experienced figure skaters

• Heavier skaters

• Ice dancers

• Skaters who prioritise speed and smooth glide

This hollow offers excellent glide with less resistance but requires strong edge control.

9/16" Hollow

Light Bite • Balanced Glide

Ideal for:

• Younger or lighter skaters

• Intermediate skaters wanting slightly more grip than 5/8"

• Skaters transitioning from a beginner sharpening

A forgiving hollow that provides smooth glide with added confidence on the edges.

1/2" Hollow

Balanced Grip & Glide

Ideal for:

• Beginner figure skaters

• Learn to Skate participants

• Recreational skaters

• Hockey skates

The most common starting hollow, offering an excellent balance between grip and glide.

7/16" Hollow

More Bite • Greater Edge Control

Ideal for:

• Most figure skaters

• Skaters learning jumps and spins

• Lightweight skaters

• Competitive skaters seeking greater control

One of the most popular figure skating hollows, providing excellent edge grip while maintaining smooth glide.

3/8" Hollow

Maximum Bite

Ideal for:

• Advanced and elite figure skaters

• Very lightweight skaters

• Skaters wanting maximum edge grip

• Hard ice conditions

Provides exceptional edge control for advanced elements, though it can feel more aggressive and reduce glide.
